Who I am

Hi. I'm Stefanie (yes, with an "f").

I'm originally from the beautiful Berkshires, but have lived in the Boston area for most of my adult life. I'm a New Englander married to a Midwesterner.

Growing up, my favorite school subjects were always English and science—so it’s not probably not surprising that I’m now a writer, and that I mostly write about science.

I worked in an in-house, communications capacity at WGBH and then MIT, specifically for the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society. (My LinkedIn profile gets into the details.) My communications roles have given me tremendous opportunities to promote important broadcast programming, innovative research, and people who are changing the world. I have a strong affinity for higher education, public broadcasting, and non-profits in general—as well as a sense of curiosity and love of learning.

In late summer of 2017, I launched as a freelancer. At the time, I had two very small children, had read Lean In a few years before, and decided to lean into the direction of my own choosing. Freelance life can have its challenges, but I’m ever so grateful that I took the leap.

I am fueled primarily by coffee, the great outdoors, podcasts, and optimism.
